International artists arrive from all over the world to thrill the audience, and emerging Swiss projects are not left out. Thus, Caribana skilfully mixes legendary bands with local tenors and up-and-comers to produce a cocktail of music that is unprecedented, spellbinding, explosive and innovative. Since its inception, the festival has struggled to keep ticket prices as low as possible and make these wild shows accessible to everyone.
The concerts take place on the shores of Lake Geneva, in the charming commune of Crans, and offer an idyllic setting to festival-goers, who are welcomed as they should be by the artists and volunteers. Caribana is proud to count people of all ages and backgrounds among its audience.
Volunteers are the organs and muscles of Caribana. Gathered within a non-profit association, these living cogs ensure many tasks essential to the smooth running of the festival, such as the reception and security of festival-goers, the cleanliness of the site, the setting up and dismantling of infrastructures, and many other vital missions. No less than 650 volunteers from various social and ethnic backgrounds, fans of rap, rock, pop or electro, join forces for the festival every year.
To thank them for their time and loyalty, Caribana offers them tickets to give to their friends and family, and vouchers valid in the different stands and bars of the festival. The volunteers’ evening, organised in their honour, allows the festival to express its gratitude by offering them meals, concerts and festivities. To ensure that the festival is a source of pleasure and not just a source of sweat, the volunteers’ schedules are adjusted to allow them to attend the concerts that are important to them.
Volunteers are supervised by senior volunteers, who share their experience, support them, and teach them the tricks of the trade. These managers are further trained in various aspects, such as team management or information systems.
The festival makes it a point of honour to ensure the safety of festival-goers. Volunteers and professional partners are spread throughout the festival in order to prevent any risk to the integrity of festival-goers. In the unfortunate event of an accident, an infirmary is available on site.
The festival also collaborates with the Nyon fire brigade and the cantonal police to ensure that the festivities run smoothly.
Caribana pays particular attention to the health of the festival-goers. Hearing protection is vital to enjoying a festival and preserving the most important tool for enjoying concerts. Thus, the festival follows the 100 dB regulation to the letter. The festival provides ear plugs for the public, which are available free of charge at many locations on the site. Caribana ensures that a healthy and balanced diet is proposed during the festival, while making sure that the products are of quality, local and varied. The festival firmly restricts access to alcoholic beverages to festival-goers under the age of 16, and access to certain bars to young people under the age of 18.
The Caribana has been working for a long time for and with young talent. The festival has featured many DJs in the past through its DJ Contest, who will perform during the next editions.
In addition, the design of the poster is put out to competition each year among the art schools of the Lake Geneva region. The winner will be offered an internship in a partner company of the festival. In addition, Caribana regularly collaborates with UAS and universities in the framework of studies, diploma works, research, theses or surveys.
