Our Environmental Approach
We Care

A festival that offsets its CO2 emissions
Environmental protection and sustainable development are at the heart of Caribana We Care! The proximity to the lake and the surrounding vegetation make the location magical, and Caribana wants to preserve such an enchanting place. The festival aims to be eco-responsible in its entirety, working each year to get closer to this goal and achieve carbon neutrality.
Waste management and site protection
Each year, Caribana covers around 70% of the ground with reusable plastic tiles. This artificial flooring protects the ground from the passage of machines and festival-goers while providing additional comfort in case of rain. Additionally, these tiles facilitate the movement of wheelchairs and strollers, preventing them from encountering the sometimes unpredictable terrain.
The festival also works to reduce the amount of waste generated during the event. Since 2007, Caribana has been using a deposit system for its dishes. Plates, cutlery, and cups can be returned to the organization to be cleaned and reused.
When waste is not reusable, Caribana is strict about its disposal. Sorting stations are set up around the site to efficiently sort the waste. PET, aluminum, glass, cardboard, paper, batteries, coffee capsules, paint, and wood are conscientiously sorted by the festival. To assist in this mission, Caribana works with local companies and ensures that the cleaning products used are non-toxic.
Reducing the carbon footprint
The festival collaborates with numerous other partners to reduce its carbon footprint. The urinals do not use water, and the toilet paper is made from recycled materials. Each year, Caribana decorates the site with materials that can be reused. Printing is done on FSC-certified paper. This is only temporary; the festival is transitioning to fully digital communication methods to significantly reduce paper consumption. Caribana’s clothing line also adheres to very strict ethical standards. The festival partners with Importexa to offer an environmentally respectful collection.
To ensure responsible electricity consumption, Caribana makes sure to work with partners providing green energy. Electrical devices are closely monitored to avoid excess consumption. Additionally, the festival has adopted the widespread use of LED bulbs.
To also encourage festival-goers to participate in the collective effort, the festival promotes sustainable mobility. Caribana collaborates with the public transport network in the Nyon region (TPN) so that you can travel freely and peacefully between the festival and your home. A carpooling platform is also available on the festival’s website, and bicycles are available for rent.
Caribana is committed to being inclusive for everyone. Therefore, the festival provides parking spaces and access for people with reduced mobility (PRM). A team of volunteers is available to ensure that PRMs can fully enjoy the festival.
